Re: Scully/Neumann/Lyrec/PTS/Pitch18 lathe build

In the menu for the camera you can enable vertical or horizontal lines. I put 5 vertical lines on the screen, and when the camera is focused right the lines are spaced so that they will line up with 160 LPI on a disc. It's a little different but it works for me. More precise measurements can be made...

Re: Scully/Neumann/Lyrec/PTS/Pitch18 lathe build

The microscope is "Eakins" brand from aliexpress. It's 130x max zoom. I believe this is the one:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32908621019.html?spm=a2g0s.12269583.0.0.711c7bee15uSla

I also go the stand and monitor from aliexpress, the whole package was around $250 I think.

Scully/Neumann/Lyrec/PTS/Pitch18 lathe build

Re: Scully 601 Lathe, Westrex 3D head turnkey stereo system

This Scully is still available! Please get in touch if you're interested. I won't be offended by any offers. I realize the Apollo fire has made the market more uncertain, but I'm sure it's just a temporary situation until a new company is selling lacquers.

SOLD: Scully 601 Lathe, Westrex 3D head turnkey stereo system

I'm selling my Scully 601 & Westrex 3D based turnkey stereo mastering lathe system. I've been cutting lacquers on this system since 2012 and I have cut master lacquers for over 200 titles with this rig. The 601 lathe has manual variable pitch from 70 LPI to 400 LPI, and very dynamic and efficient cu...

Re: WTB: Neumann Cutter Head Suspension Box

It's going on a custom Scully project lathe I've been putting together. It has Lyrec drive, heavy aluminum vacuum platter and Pitch18. The cutter head suspension is the last piece of the puzzle. I'm not in a big hurry since my main Scully/Westrex rig is still working well until the new system is fin...

WTB: Neumann Cutter Head Suspension Box

I'm looking for a Neumann cutter head suspension. I would also consider a different solution, such as LS-76 suspension or a custom piece. It needs to work with my SX74 and have electronic variable depth capability. If you have something please get in touch, thank you.

Westrex RA-1574-D tube cutting amp pair $3800

I'm selling my pair of all-tube Westrex 1574D cutting amps. They have served me well over the last few years but I've moved on to a custom built cutting amp & preamp chain. The amps both work as they should, but they will need to be calibrated to match your cutting head. The calibration procedure, s...

Re: Various Scully/Westrex/Capps stuff

Hi Jaakko,

I'm could use:

-Scully type 261-C variable feed unit schematic
-Scully sequence panel with banding unit schematic

Eventually I'm going to try and get my variable feed unit running and I don't have much documentation on it. The schematic would be very helpful.
Thanks!

Re: Scully owners, what kind of motors do you have?

I remember my motor is a 1800 rpm synchronous hysteresis motor, I don't have more details. Unfortunately it has to be removed to see the information plate on it's side, and I didn't take a good picture before I installed it. I'm not sure what you mean about driving the motor off of the inverter. One...

Yes audadvnc, I've been successfully cutting for a couple of months now. I started by cutting tons of test tones and pink noise in order to find out the frequency response, then I came up with an EQ preset that makes the cutter's response more linear. I'm also using my Urei LA-22 compressor in it's ...

Variable Feed Unit

I believe this is the preamp and amplifier that drive the motor & solenoid for automatic variable pitch & depth on the 601 Scully lathe. It's not a cutting amp at all. I could definitely use this as it's the only thing I'm missing from my lathe. Right now I'm cutting fixed pitch or riding the LPI kn...

Yes W.B., it's a 601. It does seem to have some pretty impressive mechanical automation for those lead-in and out options. Hard to believe there's only one motor involved for all of it.
