Re: The farmer and his plow - When I set out to build a record cutter
Really nice as always ! Thanks to this forum there are some informations about the principle behind this kind of groove control mechanisms, but I never thought about how changing the depth too quick would cause an audible frequency by example. Now that I read it it seems obvious. So thanks for shari...

Re: Lockdown turntable and lathe - a DIY project
I'm not an expert of stepper motors so double check this. From what I understood with stepper motors the voltage will change the torque : they operate within a certain range (my nema 17 works from 12 to 24V by example), the higher the voltage the higher the torque. For our purposes we don't need muc...

Re: The farmer and his plow - When I set out to build a record cutter
Amazing stuff as usual ! Can't wait to see (and hear) the tests of the new head. I noticed that you put some plastic/rubbery tubes around the pushrods and torque tube, I guess it is to dampen the high frequency resonnances of those elements ? From what I understood that's what the rubber on the pian...

Re: The farmer and his plow - When I set out to build a record cutter
Yes I was going to say that, they speak about this angle when speaking about the "Stylus Rake Angle Adjustment stage" which tilts the whole cutter head. So I guess the angle they talk about is not the angle between the stylus and the torque tube but the overall angle in relation to the disc (so in t...

Re: The farmer and his plow - When I set out to build a record cutter
I can't edit the message, by push rod I mean what you called the drive bar in that other thread. I've seen examples where they are perpendicular to the record, and others where they are perpendicular to the torque tube. If anyone has infos about this that would be appreciated !

Re: The farmer and his plow - When I set out to build a record cutter
Nice work ! Instinctively I would say answer C is the right one, but I have 0 experience in the subject. If your plan is to cut PVC I've read Jesus say that the VCA should be higher than the usual one we see for lacquers, to compensate for the spring back effect of pvc. Then again I don't have any s...

Re: The farmer and his plow - When I set out to build a record cutter
Great work farmersplow, if it's any consolation I've been use PLA printed bearings for my carriages and they're silent enough for me - Igus bearings would be a great step up for me. Thanks for sharing your developments. Thank you and I'm glad you like it. And thank you for your openness. Some would...
