Re: How does a mother record sounds?
as far as negatives of records go: they sound surprisingly like the record themselves as long as you play them backwards. like a user mentioned above you can make a negative of a record with some woodglue and try for yourself. here's a glue negative copy of a record, played forwards and backwards on...

Re: Royce senior traverser
Hey mate, I have the same traversing mechanism with cutter head on a 17” platter mounted to plinth with motor as seen in diagram at bottom of the first image. I have some more documentation, that could attach to the thread. Im yet to make a cut on it as I’m still getting my head around it all. I'd ...

Re: Looking to Buy in Belgium
Depends on your definition of affordable, but the cheapest option to try out if it's for you might be getting a gakken record maker from ebay and follow markrob's instructions how to mod it to cut 7" https://www.lathetrolls.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=9675 between the machine, mods and a embossing styl...

Re: Hacking The Teenage Engineering PO-80
i just realized your removable stylus holder is aimed towards cones, i have a tungsten embossing stylus from epos, not easy to get it straight with the flat-side of the stylus a 1/4 turn from the screws  DSC00657.JPG funny how these things are so obvious when it's all printed out (for me at le...

Hi Markrob
I've put togheter your parts; really cool work!
I was wondering if you could elaborate on the homemade amp you use to drive your head? I might like to copy it.
Curious to try it out now!

Re: Lockdown turntable and lathe - a DIY project
I went the other route on this and just have everything done, there's loads of semi-pro guys/girls in love with their machines offering their services and i find they do a great job for relatively cheap.

And you are very successful at that, so don't worry too much about the peanut gallery and keep up the good work!farmersplow wrote: ↑Wed Jan 31, 2024 6:44 pm

Rotterdam 27 October
I'll be presenting my woodglue records project with help from friends and fellow trolls in Rotterdam on the 27th,
It's a free event so no reason not to come if you're in the neighbourhood: https://worm.org/production/the-demonstration-collection-and-other-weird-record-grooves/

Thanks for posting these parts! It almost seems to me this tread could be pinned in the newbie forum, since it's a cheap but more and more functional entry point into the world of lathes.

Re: Gakken Toy Record Maker: Ovservations and Questions
You are mistaken, I’m using it normally. It is effecting ALL audio a the machine. So first it worked and then it stopped working? What did you manage to do when it worked? If i understand your story correctly you cut a record and played it back over the internal amp, then you tied plugging the outp...

Re: Over-cutting anyone done any?
Not exactly what you are talking about, but this comes to mind: https://www.jeroendiepenmaat.nl/portfolio/mes-ep01-frnsbrggn/ The music is recorded using an amplified knife. In a locked groove the knife cuts out the groove, over and over again, untill the original audio is hardly recognizable. 12” r...

Re: Starting up a Pierre Clement / Dual engraver from the 40s
Hey, i also have a dual/clement set up. Although i am also new to this and still in an experimenting stage (i wonder of we got our machine from the same source, actually), i would be happy to exchange on my progress so far. As far as your question about amps: I use a modern power-amp, for this you n...

Re: Dual/Poltz type counterweight
I think I'll make a little moving L-profile that will put variable pressure on the lever by moving it closer/further away with some threaded wire. It won't be very springy, but i guess it'll work something like this: Capture d’écran de 2022-11-10 13-04-02.png with the front rod attached to the lathe...
