Re: T-560 Vinyl Recorder In the UK on reverb

Reverb is a magnet for overpriced equipment and deluded sellers in general, but this takes the cake. Well, this week's cake, at least.

Re: The farmer and his plow - When I set out to build a record cutter

Farmer, I'm telling you how to make it quiet and to make it so you have to do as I tell you and for that you have to pay a lot of money, which doesn't change the fact that at the moment I don't have a super strong head that would be able to cut silently with a diamond groove in copper 17kHz and I s...

Neat! I often use PVA glue to clean records with too, and have managed to play a couple of the peeled off dry sheets with.... er... interesting results.

Sorry to hear you're packing it in, but at least I'm sure you'll sell it (them) on easily. All the best for whatever it is you're doing next!

Re: T560 vacuum lid replacement

I just got a couple of bits of scrap plywood, drunkenly cut them vaguely circular with a jigsaw, screwed them together with some thin rubber inbetween to seal against the rim of the jar and drilled a couple of holes in. It looks absolutely awful but works fine, and there's no way it's going to break...

Re: Pictures in sound: introducing Vinyl Draw

Mark - I can't remember which image I used, it was the first decent one of the Floyd's Piper cover that I found online - nothing special. Steps/rev was 720, and I cut it on a VR/SP10 at 33 onto a scrap 10" blank (very fine pitch). I didn't keep the image or wav as I was just throwing things at it in...

Surely it'd be better to register an account on MyShank's website and order discs from there, rather than relying on social media messaging?

Re: Diamond Stereo Width Issue

Oh, certainly. However there was a difference in what was cut as well between left and right, noticeably in the upper midrange, and the left channel needed some boosting in a couple of areas to even things up. Especially apparent on material that was mono, or close to.

Re: Diamond Stereo Width Issue

I can't really see how a stylus could cause this, but the two tweeters on my head are definitely imbalanced. I'm not sure if it's the tweeters themselves or perhaps the glued cones/joins causing the problem, but I could hear a marked difference just by putting pink noise through the head and flippin...

Re: Blank Importing to UK in 2021

It seems to be fairly random. I know lots of people importing records from the EU, a few have had no customs issues. Others have been clobbered, e.g. a 25 euro record subject to £10 customs charges and a £12 Parcelforce handling fee. I had a Myshank order in January turn up with no extra demands, bu...

Re: Problem with Myshank Stylus size on VR T560

It certainly seems that way. The suction tube does indeed run much closer to the torque rods (if that's the correct term?) as a result of the significantly shorter diamond. All I can suggest is to move the tube further back from the stylus - about 10mm in my case - which has resulted in the occasion...

Re: DIY lathe , new to this , what am i doing wrong ? :)

I'm slightly surprised about the lack of reaction to this, as I think it's a great effort and much better than anything I could come up with myself. I won't address technical issues though, there are others who are far more qualified to do that than me.

Re: SP10 Tone Arm Fitting...

I'm using a Rega RB250 arm, mounted in a piece of 16mm ply attached to the SP. It's got a small base so you can just about get the required 222mm mounting distance (centre point of arm base to the centre of the spindle - the SP10 was really designed to use 10" or longer arms, the Rega is 9"), althou...
