Re: Lead screw for DIY lathe ??
Also, are you doing an overhead design? i've added thrust bearings on both sides of the (1mm) lead screw, the 4080 aluminum profile is filled with silicone, and the motor mounted on 15mm rubber standoffs...it's silent and smooth, but also very heavy..so if your doing an VR-style overhead mount it pr...

Re: Periodically repeated noise in unmodulated groove, broken tip?
hi Lulu, nice job with the build. From my own experience with a DIY machine, I was getting a similar noise when my stylus pressure was too heavy. The grooves under the microscope went from a clean line to thick and cloudy. Not sure about the suction issue though...good luck

Free 5" Blanks, Must pick up in Amsterdam NL
If there are any Amsterdamers who want some 5" blanks i've got 20...perhaps you have a couple blank 7" or 10" you like to trade, not necessary but i'd use them.

A Very Basic Record Lathe
Hello, I have been working on this lathe for about a year. Starting with a drawing and eventually onto cutting metal and soldering cables. This week it all came together and i've just started cutting/embossing. I've got the counter weight set to about ~80g-100g and have been toying with different sp...

Very nice to see the progress, and the youtube vid sounds great.
One idea that crossed my mind, to lighten the moving mass, is using a 'set screw' instead of a normal phillips head. Is it an M3?

V.T.A. / Stylus angle for cutting PVC
The topic has been discussed before a couple years ago, but i gather it was mostly for cutting laguers. I'm wondering what's the best combination of angles to use in my DIY head, with the intention to eventually use a Mysank diamond, but in the meantime use a tungsten steel stylus in the process of ...

Re: 5 in blank discs?
the link i provided is not Myshank its Turntable lab based out of New York. They sell the blanks for your lathe that are made for your cutter. The myshank ones probably wont work on your cutter. As i noticed the Gakken ones are a harder plastic excuse my naivety, but i'm curious why the myshank wou...

Re: Cutterhead V-spring thickness
Hey Soulbear, thanks for your response. I have seen that one and their use of plastic is impressive. The reasons for using Aluminium are its longevity and weight. Cutting and fabricating it are also not a problem. I've ordered the sheet so we'll see (hopefully soon) if it'll work out. Still designin...

Cutterhead V-spring thickness
Hello Everyone,
I'm in the process of making a cutterhead and was wondering what thickness of aluminium sheet to use for a "V" spring.
Easy options for store bought are .3mm and up. Will that be thin enough?
Thanks
Matt

Re: Welcome, Newbies! Say Hi in this thread!
Hello, Thanks to Steve for creating this site and everyone else who has been sharing their knowledge. I've been reading as much as i can in the hopes of one day owning a lathe, hopefully a VR T560 soon. This is a very inspiring forum and, generally speaking, with very positive posts and interactions...
