Neumann did try pre-distortion and it does work to some degree. The figure shown by GerogeZ shows how the problem occurs, and it varies according to the playback stylus too. An elliptical playback stylus ( Shibata etc) reduce this effect but not everybody uses elliptical stylii. The Neumann pre-dist...
