Re: New: Phonocut Desktop Disc Cutter
Also, don't forget that (the last time I checked) it won't cut a 12" record.
10" is as big as gets for the Phonocut
Maybe the increased cost is also to allow for 12inchers?
Anyways...
I also got in early and will wait it out.

Re: Diamond Stereo Width Issue
I have an old semi-blown pair of headphones that do exactly the same thing to a stereo image, they narrow it and pan/move everything left. I mean exactly - Kinda freaky that you would post mp3s with the same sounding problem! Anyways, I have used a mix of myshank and souri diamonds over the years an...

Re: Diamond Stereo Width Issue
Interesting. To my ears, the stereo width decreases AND the balance shifts left on the Souri diamond. Is that what you hear? Are the cuts on exactly the same equipment - head, main unit, TT, signal chain? If yes, then I would be interested in the hours of use on each - souri's sounds older, and I be...

Re: Technics SP-10 mkII : Max Weight stylus
Maybe there is something wrong with my SP10 but it does NOT like having the precision plate on it.
Goes into some sort of cogging motor error.
It runs beautifully without the precision plate, and I can cut all the warped discs out there (that everybody sells) with no problems

Re: Question on cutter head driver pre-loading
Does anyone have an idea or good guess as to what a safe and proper Xmax might be for a DIY stereo head cutting at 12 grams? If I am understanding what was said so far, the 150um limit is not about the maximum excursion of the cutter but the inherent stiffness of the heads build? So what is the maxi...

Re: KNOP lathe DIY build
markrob, grooveguy thanks for the replies. Those exciters are available and in stock at Mouser. After reading the datasheet https://www.visaton.de/downloads/pdf/visaton_exciter_principles.pdf I can see some potential problems with these: "The excited surface is, compared to a lightweight cone membra...

Re: KNOP lathe DIY build
Hello, I have a question about which exciters to use if I build a head like this. The exciters xrc used are 10W but this company (visaton) also makes one that is rated for 50W: https://www.visaton.de/en/products/drivers-accessories/structure-borne-drivers/ex-80-s-8-ohm Is there an advantage to using...

Re: Peculiar surface noise cause VR
I hear that kind of noise when my stylus heat is switched off or my heating wires are not connected.
Use a DM to verify that the stylus heating circuit is ON and sending volts/current to the stylus?

Re: Drop Out Vinyl Recorder
Maybe you have a bad pot on the main unit? Turn the gain pot back and forth with the head up (no need to be cutting) but the amp on, and a known source or tone playing, and listen to the head and see if you can make it drop out? I would check all the pots in the main unit like this - just to rule th...

Re: Strange calibration problem..... VR Suction
Yeah, Mine is like this too - I think it's a design problem with the lead screw riding up higher as it goes along? Also, I don't know if you've checked, but the weight of the head decreases. For instance, if the weight is 14grams on the outside edge, when it gets to the label it is about 11grams. Ye...

Re: Rapid vertical movement w VR
Maybe you guys have already tried this but, repositioning the "screw cylinder" in the uprights might help rule in or rule out the problem of a "bad screw area". If you loosen the uprights you can slide the "screw cylinder" an inch or so further Left - if the screw is the problem, then the head oscil...
