Clear out - ex-masteringequipment

I am trying to make room in what was my mastering room but is now mainly my home office. I will make a list of stuff for free (or donate!). There is a problem that any takers have to bear in mind - I am not able to transport, pack or deliver anything - any takers will have to make their own arrangem...

Re: Mastering for Records, the methods and problems Kindle Edit

Hello Tony, I have to admit that reading in the kindle app on my smartphone is rather convenient. The variable scaling and zoom options work well. I have read most of the book, except for the quadrophonic chapter. There are some very useful bits of information in your original chapters. I reference...

Re: Mastering for Records, the methods and problems Kindle Edit

Interesting information - Amazon have considerably improved the Print on Demand system since I first looked at the possibility. But, although there is no prefront cash cost now, there is still a lot of work involved in turning a book's layout into one suitable for printing. For example, in a Kindle ...

Re: Mastering for Records, the methods and problems Kindle Edit

If you look at the heading for the Amazon page you will see it is in the section "Publish your book". Note the word 'your'. As you surmise, it is only the author who can do that. I did add that possibility to my authors rights in Amazon so it is possible to do it from the material I already have. BU...

Re: blog on restoring Lyrec lathe

A new article has been published at https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/28/arts/music/electric-recording-co-vinyl.html
Same silly assertions but the photos are better. Nicely tinted gold so they make it all look splendid!

The Cyber Conductor GTX 2007 XL

I was sent a link to the promotional video for this amazing device. :!: I especially like the special function to simulate a Record Player - it is demonstrated about 4' 12" into the demo. (My second favourite is the key transposition algorithm.) Well worth a look and listen - https://www.youtube.com...

First direct-cut on location in the UK

After so much interest was shown in my post at http://www.lathetrolls.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6701&p=43348&hilit=mastering+for+records#p43348 I searched for the event mentioned there that appeared in Studio Sound a few months after we setup our disc cutting facility in 1978. I found the very useful ...

Re: Mastering for Records, the methods and problems Kindle

No, I gave up on trying to get books printed! Publishers are only interested in quantity unless an author is prepared to pay all the costs up front. I did once try to publish a print version of a book and couldn't do it for any sensible cost I did start to prepare it for the new Amazon Createspace s...

Re: blog on restoring Lyrec lathe

When I was buying and selling used cutting equipment in the 80s and 90s I sometimes handled Lyrec lathe systems. The first one was the mono one at IBC in the Joe Meek room. Some lads in South London bought it and Sean set it up for them, but what happened to it after that I have no idea! I remember ...

Re: Mastering for Records, the methods and problems Kindle

Thanks for the comment. I hope you enjoy reading the book. I am very excited about publishing it at last. Not something that I thought possible until Amazon introduced self-publishing for Kindle. Particularly I am very happy that Ortofon allowed me to include the whole of their 1979 paper which only...

Mastering for Records, the methods and problems Kindle Edit

Although not so comprehensive as the Boden book I aimed it for a modern and more general readership. Also, its cheaper! My original short article has expanded over the years to give a better oversight for the whole process of mastering gramophone records. I have expanded the general information into...
