Re: OPCODE 1-E Mono Cutterhead (Presto 1-D Clone)
Wow quite exciting. Can't help you out with your request but looks like you made a pretty awesome mono cutterhead When you are ready testing I would love to hear a recording of the Opcode 1-E in action

Re: KNOP lathe DIY build
Hi everyone. I spent the day trying different EQ settings for cutting and got some good insights. I used to use an auto EQ between recorded white noise and virtual real white noise but I will never do that again. Did a lot of quite elaborate EQ in but in the end the best result was quite a simple so...

Re: KNOP lathe DIY build
I was referring to my own model cutterhead with a mono stylus. The sound difference with a 320 neumann type stylus is really noticable. https://www.lathetrolls.com/index.php This is the new head: looks nice in brown. Re: Open Source Cutter: Home Groove ?
What I meant is that while I think the idea is really nice, but with 500 euros in parts you could get a better product by making some good design decisions and some r&d. I really like cutting records but the learning curve is about as steep as the monetary barrier.

Re: Open Source Cutter: Home Groove ?
Cool find. The cutterhead seems to be a needle glued directly to a vertical speaker. That would probably not sound very good. A budget open source lathe should definately be of great help to a lot of people. But 500 euro for this machine does sound a little steep....

Re: KNOP lathe DIY build
Hi new update: built a new cutterhead for a 320 stylus. This time I used a 1mm drill hole + a proper 1:20 reamer to make the stylus holder. I made a little 3D printed jig for getting the torque tube in the right direction for drilling with a drill press. I use a cheapo drill press which really is no...

Re: KNOP lathe DIY build
Knop's project has renewed my interest seeing how much excellent progress he made with only access to mail-order printed parts! I've studied the photos and 3D models and have a few questions, some for Knop and some that probably others could help with: I've tried signing up to the Myshank site to se...

Re: KNOP lathe DIY build
@DoKo For the .skp files right click - save link as should do the trick.? For signal path you can find a lot of examples on the forum. Basically you correct the sound using an EQ to get a 'flat' response, get it to a high power amp and into the cutterhead (put at least some fuses between cutterhead ...

Re: KNOP lathe DIY build
Wow that's quite amazing how it came out since I really did not design for the geometric constraints of FDM printing. It's meant to print on SLS or MJF printers. Those prints are really not so expensive anymore. Anyhow I've made a hackaday project page where I will put all the latest 3D files and in...

Re: KNOP lathe DIY build
Hi Karig13,
I am still working on some refinements and other stuff, almost there. I plan to get upload all the files and info, maybe sell some kits or something for the interested.

Re: KNOP lathe DIY build
Hello everyone, Kind of took a summer break with the record cutting, but made a new version suspension. Improved the bearing hinge, added a mount for a suction tube, and made a better lifting mechanism. Still need to test it, if everything works out I'll post the files. IMG_20180917_091539.jpg IMG_2...

Fairchild 541A mono cutterhead for sale
Hi i'm looking to sell my fairchild mono cutterhead. Has been recoiled, for use with a 500 Ohm amp. However also included is a nice audio transformer in a box with a fuse, so you can use any current 8 ohm capable amp to drive the head. 400 euro asking price for the head + transformer. Re: KNOP lathe DIY build
I think the vertical cutting angle is measured with the angle between the line between the point where the torque tube piano wire is fixed to the body, and the tip of the needle, and the record surface. Could be wrong though.

Re: KNOP lathe DIY build
Yes i've adjusted the head to a cutting angle of about 30 degrees, as I've heard there is a springback effect on laquers, so I presume on the myshank blanks as well. My first heads were around 12 degrees.

Re: KNOP lathe DIY build
@grooveguy, I do not exactly understand what you mean by your question @pedreguero The power handling of the speakers is important for loud cuts. The speakers i have are 2w rms rated, i use ferrofluid and active cooling+heatsink to gain an extra 3-4db of usable power. Finally got time to build a new...

Re: KNOP lathe DIY build
I feel like it's time to move to 320 neumann stylus in the project. Made a new torque tube with a fitting for a 320 stylus, which hopefully will hold. Calculated weight is down to 0,54gram, and the stylus should now be right below the pushrod /funnels. Added some stubs to easily attach the funnels. ...
