Re: Who is Print Your Vinyl?

The recent post by Clint Niosi on Instagram really casts Kunaki in a dim light - quite a contrast to all the testimonials on their website. https://www.instagram.com/p/CxGoGWFPvJy/ At any rate, though, the Print Your Vinyl website suggests they are is based in Marietta GA. But yeah, unless Print You...

Re: List of Movies with a cutting lathe

I was just reminded of this older thread while watching a remake of an Agatha Christie story, re-titled for the BBC in 2015 as, "And Then There Were None". In Episode 1, a record is shown being cut, which contains allegations against the ten characters who are ultimately picked off one at a time, fo...

I'm just curious how many lathe cutters in these forums are planning to attend this event in June:

Re: Question for Presto 6N operators regarding overhead set-up

At the moment, I'm just embossing. I'm mainly using the embossing cones Mike sells, and for testing purposes, I've tried old stock, new stock, as well as some backward sapphires that I've had great success with, even old re-sharpened victrola needles, ala Peter King. No mater what though, the curren...

Re: Question for Presto 6N operators regarding overhead set-up

Hey there apoklis - Thanks for the suggestions - and photos! That will give me a couple of new things to try. Amazingly, I reckon, I've been able to make some great sounding records all this time in spite of the minor caveats I mentioned that the unit came with. But this time something definitely sh...

Re: Question for Presto 6N operators regarding overhead set-up

If you're having extra collars machined, I would definitely be interested in one - thanks for the offer. I've actually thought about doing what what you suggested and holding the shaft higher with that setscrew / bolt, but that would mean I'd need to raise the flange higher as well, in order to keep...

Question for Presto 6N operators regarding overhead set-up

Hi there - Recently, I took an unanticipated two-month covid break from working in my little lathe studio. Once I was back on my feet, I thought it would be a good idea to start fresh with everything, rather than just pick up where I had left off. This included cleaning up a few parts, and re-calibr...

Re: Line Output Converters

Hi trag - Sorry, I didn't realize until recently that there had been any replies to my question - I forgot to switch my notifications on! Yes, to some extent, I have been determined to try and limit the number of gain stages the signal needs to travel through, which is why I go straight from the Fii...

Line Output Converters

Hi folks - I was recently working on a couple of my old 1950s mono Newcomb record players, where my goal was to create a “Line Out” situation that would allow me to patch the Newcombs into modern stereo components. Part of the reason being that for a lot of older lo-fi records, they actually sound b...

Re: How I make needles now.

Hi folks - I'm wondering if anyone picked up any of these needles, and if so, what kind of results were you getting? Beyond that, if anyone has one or two extra, would you be willing to let me buy one or two? I had jumped on this right away, back in Nov 2021, and was curious to explore the possibili...

I've been using a Tungsten Carbide Point Marking Pen that I got from my wife's dad some years ago.

Re: stylus heating question (plastic)

Is it the consensus that stylus heating is more for the benefit of getting less surface noise, then?
How much extra stylus wear is likely to occur if it is not heated?

Re: Cutting Stylus Weights

Hey there, Aaron, been a while! Is there a particular type of spring gauge you use? I've seen a few different types out there, and too many times, I end up buying a bunch of random tools that I'm never gonna use. In our region, you're not going to find one of those in a hardware store, so I'm going ...

Possible Sources For Polycarbonate

My wife and I went out to a favorite restaurant last night, and she commented on the fact that they still had the poly sheets attached to the booth dividers; something a lot of us have seen during the past couple of years, as many service-oriented businesses had cornered the market for commercial po...

Is there any consensus among other lathe cutters as to what type of spring tension gauge or similar method is the most reliable?

Hi Konstantin! I have one of your VC01 cutterheads, although I have not had the opportunity to use it yet with my 6N, as I haven't been able to obtain diamond stylii and blanks yet. Recently, however, I *did* have the opportunity to hone my cutting skills with PIAPTK and KrisD on a modified Presto 8...

Hi basplin - I don't have an answer for your question, but it looks like no one ever got back to you on this; so I'm kind of bumping this thread to see if it gets on anyone's radar these days, since I'm kind of curious about the cork + rubber combo myself. Meanwhile, what did you decided to go with?...

Hi there - I think this actually relates to a conversation I was just having yesterday with Mike, oddly enough. Just to be sure I'm reading this correctly and understanding it, the two facets you refer to would be on the left side of this image? close-up of B stylus [3].JPG < - snip - >The back angl...
