hi, short question, do you know if the motor stays synced with the technics if you change the pitch at the turntable?
If you make adjustments to the Technics pitch slider, you should also make a similar change on the motor's fine speed control (the large silver knob )

Re: Potential cutter head problem?

Might be the mechanical 'linkage' rather than the coils themselves

Re: Potential cutter head problem?

And you should also state that you don't run the audio through Souri's main unit, so that cannot be the cause of the issue either.

Rietschle suction pumps (uk)

Hi all, Before I put them onto eBay, is anyone interested in either a VTE-6 or VTE-8 suction pump? I currently have one of each for sale. They're in used but good condition and I recently serviced them both myself so they're running tip-top. I don't need them anymore as I've moved over to side chann...

Re: Groove jumping on VMS70

It looks more like the cut depth is going shallow for 4 rotations, rather than overcutting.
I'm no expert on the VMS70, but you might want to inspect the feedscrew for debris in the thread and also check the halfnut is adjusted correctly too.

Re: VR Clear box heating modification

Hi David,

Afraid I can't help you with your box idea but was wondering, could post the make & model of that 275w heater you're using please (and/or where you bought it from)?

Thanks!

Re: Wonky precision platter VR

My next guess at a culprit for your issue would be to examine your Technics 1200's centre spindle bearing. They were never designed to carry as much weight as the precision plate exerts on them, resulting in the thrust plate and/or ball bearing developing a flat spot. This may only come to light whe...

Re: SP10 Rubber Mat - Uneven

I'd go with a neoprene mat. There's a little too much natural 'give' in cork for my needs.

Re: Hi All, Guidance on steps to take going forward

Hi Will, Welcome to the madness! Great to have you here. From what you say, it sounds like you are at a similar point the where I was 10-15 or so years ago. I'm UK-based too and always happy to talk about all things lathe/disc mastering related. If you PM me, we can get into more lengthy details tha...

Re: VR Dashpot oil

That will definitely work ok. Personally, I use a 40 weight (W40) fork oil, but it really doesn't matter too much. Just be aware that the oil's viscosity, and therefore how much damping it provides, will change a little with room temperature. So if you're cutting in a very hot climate, go with a sli...

I originally posted this research document in the Reference section, back in mid-2020
https://www.lathetrolls.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=8777

I posted it around the time of original publication and came across it during my work with The British Library 'Save Our Sounds' project.
