I pulled the pulley from the BSR motor yesterday and it was like a breeze! Actually it was so easy that i was completely flabbergasted.. once put on the pulley I only needed to turn it for about 3 seconds and the job was done. O well.. always good to have some extra tools... something tells me i nee...

Great! All clear and a nice piece of information on old days motor usage! Since we're in 2011 now, i think an upgrade to a belt system would be the way to go then. Wouldn't it be possible to use a belt driven dc motor in it's current location, like: http://lathe.bd8.nl/Presto%206N/presto_belt_driven...

Hi Flo, Thanks very much for these insights. also if you attach a motor make sure you isolate the motor by rubber somehow.. if motor is attached with rubber suspension, silent blocks and then with a belt you should have minimal rumble. but torque transmission could become a problem. but i had accept...

Hi Mark, The brushless DC motor idea should work out great. As far as torque, just make sure the motor is capable of 1/25 hp at the shaft speed you will be running (1800 rpm if going with direct drive). If you can find a motor that can be mounted in the same space as the Bodine, that is the easiest ...

I hope to receive the pulley puller this week and then I'll probably try to pull the pulley beginning of next week. I'll let you all know how it went.
BTW I'm going to pull the pulley from a B.S.R. motor shaft, not a 6N, but the principle is the same of course.

You can use what we call in Dutch a 'poelietrekker' for this job. In English it translates to 'Pully Puller' ;-). First hit on google gives you an idea: http://www.dialmfg.com/Pulleys.html

I hope you can 'pull it off' his way, because i just ordered one myself to do the same ;-)

re: Presto 6N Motor / Speed Controller update options

Hi JayDC, Sorry to bump this thread again, but since i'm living in Europe (230/50Hz) i also like (need) to swap the motor of a 6N. I'm thinking about buying a controllable brushless DC motor with loads of torgue and just replace that with the current 120v/60hz motor. Not sure if that's possible and/...

hmmm.. looking at the ebay pictures again.. the one you got seems to be a little different; it has one tube extra so probably my tube line-up is not going to help you :(. But looking very closely at the pictures it looks like the tube numbers are printed on the case (above each socket), just like mi...

I'm still ...

@emimusic The dimension of the 45rpm pulley are very welcome!! Maybe you also have some pictures of how you put it in there? I will scan the manual of the BSR this week and put it online here. @AussieOzborn: Here are some pics from one in a British museum: http://sounds.bl.uk/File.aspx?item=029I-5XN...

Hi emidisc,

I have the same cutter in original state. I also have the original amplifier (type A.R. 15) which belongs to it and a manual.
Can you tell me how you modified it to do 45rpm cutting?
Do you have some more info on this unit as well?

Cheers,
Joost

So almost double price and in less condition. I asked the seller about shippingcosts.. roughly 550 dollar (Netherlands). I guess i'll let this one pass and move on ;)

Thanks for your feedback!
