Simon Sound Service Lathe, 1950ies
Dear fellow Trolls, A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to take a look at, and some pictures of an old English lathe here in Finland. Surprisingly, both the playback and cutter diamonds are still intact, and after a bit of fiddling and guessing I figured out how to use the manual controls fo...

Re: Mystery cutting head
Having personally handled and used Neumann R12, the screw terminals on the back look very similar to R12, and are located similarly. The stylus locking screw is also similar to R12. I think this is also a mono standard groove cutter that utilizes steel needles, like the R12. It looks a lot bulkier t...

Re: Mastering for Records, the methods and problems Kindle Edit
Hello Tony, I have to admit that reading in the kindle app on my smartphone is rather convenient. The variable scaling and zoom options work well. I have read most of the book, except for the quadrophonic chapter. There are some very useful bits of information in your original chapters. I referenced...

Hello Tony, thank you for kind your reply, and please do excuse my emotional outburst..... I have skipped through the book, and will read it thoroughly when I have the time. Thank you again for publishing it! The way I have understood the whole idea of "on demand" printing, it means that there is no...

You're wellcome! ... about ligth pattern test on stereo records... Thank You! This one is VERY useful! Nice to see further treatment of the topic, except for the original Buchmann- Meyer article (from which this one seems to be borrowing illustrations). Bastiaans also appears as an author in the AE...

Apparently Amazon does offer paperback printing in their direct publishing program. Presumably it has to be somehow initiated/unlocked/activated by the author?

Re: Mastering for Records, the methods and problems Kindle Edit
I bought the book, it is wonderful, but like others, I HATE reading on a screen. Have spent the last hour or so looking for a way to print. Deplorable............ Amazon is "big brother". Horrible, bullying business model. I don't understand why they don't offer at least a PAID printing function? :e...

Re: Ebay : Vintage Neumann, Scully, K&H, etc
From one of the ebay ads:
That would probably be the same Stephen F. Temmer who's listed as editor of the AES disk recording anthologies....I got this from the estate of Steve Temmer, the owner of Gotham Audio, along with many other Neumann & EMT items.

Wow nice picture! It shows two AM31s with the old type of platter for wax blanks. The cutterhead mount looks unfamiliar, I haven't seen this variant before. The engineer is adjusting the vertical position of the cutterhead assembly with the crank handle he has his hand on. He might be adjusting groo...
