Accoustic Recording

Just found a website about an accoustic recording project. Seems some people are recording the really old fashioned way using large horns as microphones etc (pre electrical recording)

Re: M.S.S. Cutting Head

Hi Railwayhotel, thanks for posting that vid, it's the first time i've seen another MSS lathe. I have one i bought a couple of years ago that's very similar to the one in the video. My one here: https://lathetrolls.com/viewtopic.php?t=2238 The cutting heads are probably the same. I reckon you could ...

Did you buy it on ebay? Every sapphire that pops up on there is listed as a diamond... no, it came with my lathe when I bought it.. they never told me it was a diamond, I just assumed because of its coloring.. I just didn't know that sapphires could come in white.. I'm not a jeweler.. Yes they can ...

Yes indeed, this is the first time i have seen something other than my lathe that's made by M.S.S in the UK. It was run by Cecil Watts and he is credited with inventing the lacquer disc.

Rewinding voice coils

Japanes Lathes

The only Japanese lathe i've ever seen was made by Denon in 1953 and claims to be japans' first recording lathe.
Denon made high end turntables too, some of them used a lathe motor, presumably their own.

Polycarbonate Discs

Hi all, thanks to those that have shown interest. I chased up the supplier today because they hadn't got back to me, apparently they're "incredibly busy" should have the prices soon. But as an indicator....from my net research i think a sheet of 1.5mm will be about £180 and will make about 40 discs ...
