Re: Cutting nitemares? Am I alone?

Always use compressed air to blow dust off a blank you're about to cut, especially if you've just been to the dentist and half your face is numb. Spraying spit all over the blank is not an effective strategy, nor is it polite or elegant. I never used compressed air. It's full of oil and water unles...

Re: Best stereo cutterhead for my application

Big money? Depends how hard you want to work really. The Scully platter is not as flat as the platter on Neumann so you would need an advance ball on the head, reason you don't see many SX74 on a Scully. Westrex 3DII has the advance ball and go to head for Scully. If you can sort a Neumann platter ...

Re: Audiodisc Name Change (Apollo Dubplates, Reference Lites

Do any trolls know of a effective way of stripping old dubs down to the aluminium substrate so that they can then be sent for scrap? recyclers appear reluctant to take them with coating. I have tried boiling water on them but this does not work well. Emidisc I'd use paint remover. The coating is, a...

Re: Audiodisc Name Change

Hi Guys, Sorry I didn't see this thread before. Let me first start out by explaining we really do not manufacture Dubs. A Dub by definition is a Master that has not made the cut. (sorry for the pun) as a Master for either visual or fidelity in our quality inspection. These discs are still very good...

[quote="Dub Bull"]Get yerself a microscope and behold what you are (not) leaving behind. Even if you're strictly impressing, it's a microgroove cutter, after all. Even coarse grooves of 10 mil width and 110 included angle needed microscopy. A monoscope with reticle of known spacings is adequate, and...

Who has one? Even Ampex couldn't figure out how to put a preview head on an ATR and developed a digital delay line for the program signal for cutting. ATR Services, the company that remanufactures the ATR 102 made an ATR 102 preview deck for Sterling Sound. They manufactured an extended deck plate ...

We had one demonstrated at Warners. It was made to be used with the Ortofon head. Nuff. said. Futuredisc was the only place I knew who used them.

Re: CBS Labs ASRA / QUASRA Vertical Limiter

Does anyone who cut records for CBS in the late 60's to early 70's remember this gadget? It had a bank of 3 Urei 1176 limiters as well as some hidden circuitry and was used to control vertical modulation in Westrex cutterheads. It was followed by the QUASRA for Quad SQ records and was designed by t...

MEK works better for cleaning wayward chip.
It's pretty easy to set vacuum. Just make a test cut, listen to it and adjust accordingly. That is what I did, worked fine on both Westrex and Neumann.
